JOIN

About Us

JOIN is all about showing up, having fun, and building meaningful connections. It’s a community-based initiative designed to support teenagers and their families by nurturing wellbeing and belonging through shared interests, local groups, and creative activities. At the heart, JOIN creates safe, inclusive spaces where people can connect, participate, and feel part of something bigger. Whether it’s a teen looking for friendship, a parent seeking support, or a young adult eager to contribute, JOIN meets each person where they’re at, offering co-designed workshops, sustainable links to local organisations like PCYC or theatre groups, and tailored pathways that reflect individual strengths and passions.

For parents navigating the challenges of raising socially isolated teens, JOIN offers education and support around connection-building and strengthening family relationships. For young people who want to volunteer and make a difference, JOIN provides opportunities that honour their skills and aspirations. Every step is guided by empathy, creativity, and a commitment to inclusion.

Central to JOIN’s impact are its two Social Connection Workers. Their role begins with deep listening, taking time to understand each person’s story, goals, and needs. With a creative lens, they guide teens through visual mapping exercises that explore dreams, strengths, and interests. From there, they co-create a personalised “connection plan,” linking individuals to community groups, recreation and leisure activities, events, or services that align with their values. These might include community activities, peer support networks, parenting workshops, or volunteering opportunities. Beyond referrals, they facilitate inclusive events, mentor volunteers, and help shape JOIN’s communications and materials, always grounded in safety, belonging, and respect.

JOIN is also proudly youth-led, with a steering committee of young people who guide the project and ensure that teen voices are central to every decision. Their leadership keeps JOIN relevant, responsive, and rooted in lived experience.
