Show UsYour Prescription!
A national campaign celebrating connection, community, and health
When we hear the word “prescribe”, we usually think of medicine.
But many of the things that shape our health don’t come from hospitals or pharmacies.
They come from everyday life.
Where we live.
How we spend our time.
Who we feel connected to.
Whether we have purpose, opportunity, and belonging.
Across Australia, people are already finding their own prescriptions for wellbeing, through community activities, local organisations, and everyday connections.
This campaign is about making those prescriptions visible.
Show us what supports your health - Show us your prescription.
What Is Social Prescribing?
A national campaign celebrating connection, community, and health
Social prescribing connects people with the activities, supports, and community resources that improve health and wellbeing.
Healthcare professionals may prescribe medicine, but they can also help people connect with things that support life outside the clinic.
Sometimes this means helping someone find meaningful activities in their community.
Sometimes it means helping people overcome practical barriers that are getting in the way of living well.
A social prescription might help someone to:
-
discover local activities they didn’t know existed
-
reconnect with community and social networks
-
access support services
-
build confidence and skills
-
navigate barriers such as transport, cost, or access
-
take part in activities that create meaning, routine, and purpose
In many cases, these everyday factors are just as important for health as medical treatment.

Why does it matter?
SP in action
Research from around the world shows that health is shaped not only by medicine, but by the conditions of our lives.
Things like:
-
social connection
-
opportunity and participation
-
safe and supportive communities
-
meaningful roles and activities
-
access to services and supports
These factors influence whether people develop chronic disease, experience loneliness or depression, and how well they live with long term health conditions.
This is why social prescribing is increasingly recognised internationally as an approach that supports:
-
prevention and wellbeing
-
management of chronic and complex conditions
-
mental health and resilience
-
ageing well
-
healthier, more connected communities
Social prescribing also supports health equity.
People experiencing disadvantage often face multiple social, economic, cultural, or practical barriers to staying well. By connecting people with community supports that fit their lives, social prescribing helps ensure health is not determined simply by postcode or circumstance.
Show Us Your Prescription
Across Australia, people already have prescriptions that support their wellbeing. They’re not written on paper, they’re lived!
They might look like:
-
a local sports club that builds confidence and friendships
-
a walking track that clears your head
-
a hobby that brings joy back into your week
-
neighbours who stop loneliness before it starts
-
volunteering that gives purpose and routinelearning something new alongside others
-
spending time outdoors and reconnecting with nature
-
a place where you feel you truly belong
These prescriptions exist in thousands of communities, every day.
This campaign is about showing them, and reminding Australia, that health happens in communities, not just clinics.

Join the Campaign
We’re inviting Australians to show us their prescription.
Share a short video on your favourite socials (LinkedIn, Facebook, etc) that captures something in your life or community that supports your wellbeing.
Finish the sentence:
“This is my prescription.”
or
“My prescription is…”
Tell people why it matters to you. Then invite others to do the same.
Tag:
-
Your local, state, and federal Members of Parliament and encourage them to "Show us your prescription".
-

Together, we can show the many ways Australians support health and wellbeing every day.
For Members of Parliament
Strong communities are essential for a healthy nation.
Across Australia, community organisations, volunteers, sports clubs, cultural groups, and neighbourhood initiatives already play a vital role in supporting health and wellbeing.
Social prescribing helps connect healthcare systems with these community strengths.
Internationally, it is gaining recognition as a way to support prevention, mental health, and the management of long‑term health conditions.
This campaign invites Members of Parliament to showcase the prescriptions already working in their electorates.
If you are an MP, we invite you to share something in your community and say:
“This is my prescription!”
Your voice can help highlight the everyday places, people, and activities that keep communities healthy and connected.

A Vision for
Australia
Australia has one of the strongest healthcare systems in the world.
But good health depends on more than healthcare alone.
It depends on:
-
connection
-
community
-
purpose
-
opportunity
-
and belonging
Social prescribing helps bring these elements into our understanding of health.
Show Us Your Prescription is an invitation to recognise that wellbeing grows from the places where people live their everyday lives, and to make those stories visible.
Because the prescriptions for a healthier Australia are already here.
We just need to show them together!
